Thirteen-year-old Jake loves attention and gross motor play such as jumping on a trampoline and running. He also loves food and sticky hands...he is a funny kid who is always making his family laugh!
Jake was diagnosed with autism and self injurous behaviors at the age of 2. He wears the protective helmet because he hits himself in the head . Jake is non-verbal, very active, never sits down and needs complete attention from his caregiver.
Very few things inside his home keep Jake engaged which leads him to to behaviors like removing his helmet, injuring himself, aggressively pulling the hair of others, etc. His family has found items he really enjoys in the community or at therapy and they hope that duplicating some of those items in the home will be beneficial, soothing and engaging for him.

Building Blocks for Kids supports children and families who live with disabilities in a wide variety of ways. One of those ways is through our Meet A Need Medical Scholarship Program. This program allows us to meet individual needs, one child at a time.
